We at the National Streets for Performing Arts (NSPA) often lament at how few spaces in Mumbai are created to encourage talented amateur performers like the ones we give a platform to. In retaliation to this unfortunate reality, we have begun whole heartedly to bother people, organisations and spaces by showing them what our city would look like with music, poetry and dance pouring out of every galli and junction - and it is working!
Because of the way our musicians are going, we're hardly surprised to be organising over 300 hours of performance in December! Acquaint yourself with our street performers by catching them this weekend - you're going to be bumping into them very often!
SNEAK PREVIEW - We're bringing a Carnatic lullaby to you next week as part of our video podcast series, and here is a spontaneous jam we caught on tape, sung by a music teacher and her student of 15 years, accompanied by our Carnatic violinist and mridangam player!
HAPPENING TODAY - Flora Fountain's Somaiya Centre for Lifelong Learning hosts NSPA artist showcases every Friday from 6.30 - 7.30 pm - starting today! Come cheer us on as our musicians introduce you to Marathi folk music!

It's not everyday you hear Kabir's dohe re-imagined with folk rock influences, and presented with lilting Goan folk tunes! (P.S. We're "Busking at the Hive" again on the 30th of November, and we will say only this - the flamenco guitar meets Marathi folk this time!)

The NSPA performs at four different Metro stations every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! More details in the weekend plan given above!
We recently discovered Napeansea Road's Simla Nagar as a lovely spot for performing for enthusiastic audiences, and this is what we did once we got there!
Our musicians had a field day performing as part of the Equal Streets Initiative - which aims to take back the streets of Linking Road and S. V. Road every Sunday morning for the citizens - on 9th November! You can catch them at Equal Streets every Sunday from 8 - 10 am, clad in bright yellow t-shirts and belting their hearts out! Check out last week's photos to see Sunday mornings have been transformed into!
